Packington - Education Project
At Packington we believe that educating the next generation is vital, not only so that they can appreciate what an exciting and skilled industry is but also so that they can understand where their food comes from, the lengths farmers have to go to too ensure, environmental sustainability, consistency in the product as well as high levels of food safety and animal welfare.
We have opened up our arable farm at Blakenhall Park for local schools to come and visit. The school trip is completely free for the schools. During their day the children participate in activities such as crop walk, tractor and trailer rides, view organic dairy cows, pigs and sheep, pond dipping, forestry studies and cereal crop investigation. We feel it is so important that children make a connection with food and farming.
During the winter we offer free school talks where one of our FarmLink delivers goes into school to do farm workshops. We take cereal crops into schools for children to see, model machinery and even a live chicken.
In total we hope to speak to or show around, 5000 children a year!
