Packington Free Range on C4’s Drop Down Menu

The world of TV is a fast-paced one. It took just nine days from start to finish for C4’s Drop Down Menu to find Packington Free Range, organise a film crew to visit, edit a short piece on the farm and see me appear on the programme.

Drop Down Menu features local and ethical food producers and sees some fantastic celebrity chefs cooking their produce live on the show. It’s the perfect fit for Packington.

Just a couple of days after the initial phone call, the film crew came to the farm to film a segment featuring me on the farm talking about our chickens. Then on the 24th November I headed down to London to appear on the show live with hosts Matt Tebbutt and Gizzi Erskine, Radio1’s Dave Vitty (Comedy Dave) and celebrity chefs Paul Rankin and Jun Tanaka.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of Drop Down Menu, the chef recommends three different dishes he could cook with the particular featured ingredients, and the audience then votes for the one they would like to most see. The audience voted for Jun to cook a Chicken Paillard which he expertly whipped up in just a few minutes – and it was absolutely delicious.

All in all, despite the whirlwind of preparations, it was an amazing experience. Having such respected chefs using our produce and being so positive about what we do at Packington Free Range was a wonderful experience.

Thanks to everyone who has watched the programme so far. It’s proving a great way for new people to discover Packington Free Range and for our loyal customers to learn more about how we work. One thing’s for sure, we’re going to keep watching, to see what other local producers we can discover throughout the series.
