The results are in and we’re proud to announce our biggest ever win at this year’s Great Taste Awards. We’ve won nine awards, across our entire product line, with the judges awarding us coveted one and two stars across the board.

The judging panel is made up of top chefs, food columnist and experts, who blind-test more than 12,500 entries to find the most exquisite food and drink. In an increasingly competitive food market, the Great Taste logo gives the customer real buying confidence.

We’ve been awarded Two Star awards for our Packington Free Range Cockerel, Packington Free Range Chicken and Packington Free Range Pork Shoulder.  According to the judges, two star products are deemed, “Above and beyond delicious – less than 10% of entries will achieve this rating.”

Of our chicken, judges said: “A beautiful looking chicken, evenly browned and with a delicious aroma. The flavours of both the breast and the dark meat are delicious. Rich and flavoursome, moist and tender. You really can tell the benefit of its diet.”

Our cockerels, which are perfect for smaller gatherings this Christmas, were described by the panel as, “A magnificent looking bird; this would certainly be a welcome centerpiece on any dinner table. The meat is enjoyably dense and juicy, and the dark meat extremely tender. The fat has a wonderful creaminess to it.”

Our final two star product, our Shoulder of Pork was another crowd-pleaser with the judges. “A wonderful, succulent joint of pork – a true feast for the eyes. The well marbled meat produces an excellent melt in the mouth texture. Great tasting pork and moreish crackling.”

We received One Star awards for our Packington Free Range Bronze Turkey, Chicken Fillets, Chicken Thighs, Pork Loin, Pork Leg and Pork Belly. One stars are awarded to “Food that delivers fantastic flavour. Approximately 25% of entries will achieve this rating each year.”

Our bronze turkey is ideal for anyone planning a traditional Christmas this year, with the panel gushing, “A beautiful, rather big-breasted bird, sitting golden and proud on the platter. Gently aromatic and the flesh reflected this. The breast meat is close-textured and sweet, the skin enjoyable. The brown meat has sound, full flavour. The juices are pleasant – clean and sweet. Great to hear that it’s pasture-raised. A pleasing turkey, one we’d be happy to serve at our festive table.”

It’s great recognition for our team. They have worked tirelessly this last year, in testing circumstances, to deliver the high standard of pork and poultry our loyal butchers and customers have come to expect.
