Meet The Farmer: Chickens

Meet The Farmer: Chickens

As our Meet the Farmer series rolls on, we’re pleased to introduce another member of the team here at Packington Free Range.

Each person on the farm brings their own skills, perspective and passion for doing things properly - and it’s those people who help shape the way we farm and the standards we stand for.

Next up, meet Joanna....

Name: Joanna Piotrowski-Nykiel

 Role: Stock Person

Length of service: 9 years

What do you love about farming?

I love farming because it means working outdoors and with animals, so 2 of my favourite things in the world.

Give us a fun fact about yourself or what do you think you would be doing if you weren’t a farmer?

If I wasn't a farmer I would still be in a job working outdoors and with animals, but I really love farming.

What’s one thing people often misunderstand about farming?

People often think farming is a job, but to farmers it's a way of life! You are  sometimes classed as stupid or didn't do well at school, but to us we do it because we are proud to feed the nation and because we love looking after animals to the highest standards. You become part of the farm because you are looking and attending to the needs of the live stock more than you are at home.

Funniest moment on the farm?

Some of the funniest moments on the farm have been a tradition we do in Poland on Easter Monday - it is called 'Smigus-Dyngus' (which we have renamed as 'shingle dingles' on the farm). It's where we basically spray everyone with water!

What is your favourite Packington Free Range product?

Obviously it's the Packington chicken!
