Why our pork is different

At Packington Free Range, we focus on producing pork with real depth of flavour. Our pigs are reared to high welfare standards, with space, care and a natural approach that allows them to develop properly.

This results in pork that is richer, more tender and far more satisfying than standard cuts.

This isn’t just pork, it’s a proper eating experience, built around flavour, texture and quality. The result is pork with real depth, proper texture and a noticeable difference on the plate.

How to cook your tomahawk pork chop

For best results, bring to room temperature before cooking.

Sear in a hot pan or on the BBQ to develop a deep golden crust, then finish in the oven at 180°C until cooked through.

Allow to rest before serving to keep the meat tender and juicy.

Simple seasoning with salt, pepper and herbs is all that’s needed, the quality does the work.

What to expect

  • Rich, full pork flavour
  • Tender, juicy meat
  • Beautiful marbling for added depth
  • A true centrepiece cut

Perfect for sharing or making a meal feel like an occasion.

Description

Working with one of our trusted stockists, the local family-run butchers Paul Shum in Yoxall, we’re pleased to offer Packington pork directly through our website, available to order alongside our poultry with the same trusted delivery service.

As a fourth-generation family farm in rural Staffordshire, we have been producing food for over 100 years, with a focus on high welfare, sustainability and proper farming methods.

Our pigs are reared to the highest welfare standards and are widely recognised by butchers and the RSPCA Assured scheme as some of the best available.

All our pigs are born outdoors at Packington, where sows live their entire lives with space to roam, wallow and socialise. Once weaned, piglets move into large outdoor paddocks with well-bedded shelters, before progressing to spacious, naturally lit barns with outdoor access.

Low group numbers, deep straw bedding and careful attention from our farmers ensure welfare remains paramount at every stage.

Our pigs are allowed to develop and mature naturally, producing pork that is rich in flavour, tender in texture and a noticeable step up in quality.

Cooking Instructions

For best results, bring the pork to room temperature before cooking and season well with salt and pepper.

Oven and pan method
Heat a heavy-based pan over a medium-high heat with a little oil. Sear the chop for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until golden.

Transfer to a preheated oven at 180°C (fan 160°C) and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on thickness.

Rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

On the BBQ
Cook over a medium heat, turning regularly, for 20 to 25 minutes until cooked through with a good char on the outside. Move to indirect heat if needed to finish.

Tips
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 63 to 65°C, then allow to rest until temperature raises to 70°C.

Avoid overcooking to keep the meat tender and juicy.
